A new innovative health insurance product will be introduced to the market by ERGO Versicherung in early 2021. The launch of the new product means people in Austria can now obtain separate dental prosthesis insurance for the first time without having to purchase additional private health insurance. This enables customers to protect themselves against the financial burden that can result when teeth are lost – in a policy that supplements statutory social insurance, which generally does not cover the cost of dental prothesis. ERGO Versicherung is also launching another insurance product known as inpatient insurance following accidents. Neither of these insurance packages require customers to answer questions about their health when they sign up for a policy, and both packages can also be obtained online.
Cleaning your teeth properly every day, using dental floss and visiting your dentist on a regular basis in order to benefit from professional oral hygiene services are important for maintaining an attractive and healthy smile. Nevertheless, one can never be absolutely sure that they will be able to keep their teeth forever. While social insurance does cover all or part of the cost of removable dentures, it generally does not cover fixed prosthesis – i.e. crowns, bridges and implants. Despite the fact that things can get expensive very fast for those who need such prostheses, not even five per cent of people in Austria currently have private dental insurance (source: Telemark Marketing).
That was reason enough for ERGO to decide to launch a new type of product on the market in the form of the first separate dental prosthesis insurance ever available in Austria. The insurance package enables customers to benefit from the extensive international expertise of the entire ERGO Group. “We have more than three million people insured via supplementary dental insurance policies offered by ERGO Krankenversicherung AG, which means the data and expertise available to us in Germany alone is greater than what has been collected from the entire Austrian market over the last few years”, says Dr. Philipp Wassenberg, CEO of ERGO Versicherung AG. “Now we are sending a clear signal and demonstrating our innovative capability in Austria.”
Dental prosthesis insurance: No health questions asked when customers sign up for a policy
Private dental prosthesis insurance from ERGO represents a useful supplement to statutory social insurance cover. It’s easy to sign up online for a policy, which reimburses up to 90 per cent of the cost of medically necessary dental prothesis procedures and implant repairs (maximum €3,000 per year of cover). Although cover for the maximum amount is phased in the first years of the policy, it is fully available in the event of an accident. “We are embarking upon a new path with the first separate dental prosthesis insurance insurance in Austria”, says Ronald Kraule, member of the Board of Management with responsibility for the personal lines business at ERGO Versicherung AG. “For one thing, no health questions are asked when customers sign up for a policy. This saves time for our customers and ensures complete transparency with regard to premiums.”
It also means that no additional premium is charged to customers with pre-existing conditions. What’s more, there are no waiting times – insurance cover begins on the same day the customer signs up for the policy, and cover is worldwide as well. Policyholders can visit a dentist of their choice, whereby objective criteria are used to determine what is covered. For example, gaps between teeth that are present when the policy is obtained are not covered by the insurance. The same applies to all cosmetic dental procedures and treatments that had already been advised by a dentist before cover was obtained. ERGO dental prosthesis insurance insurance is available to anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 whose primary place of residence is Austria and who is currently insured under the statutory social insurance system in the country. Premium amounts depend on the age of the policyholder: The younger the customers are when they sign up, the lower will be the premium. As an example, the monthly premium for ERGO dental prosthesis insurance for an 18-year-old is currently €17.80.
Inpatient insurance following accidents: Greater comfort and privacy
Inpatient insurance following accidents is another new product in the ERGO portfolio. With this insurance, anyone who needs to be hospitalised after an accident (e.g. a skiing accident) will be entitled to reimbursement of the costs of hospitalisation and treatment in the special-treatment class with a two-bed room. If the policyholder is treated at a participating contract hospital, ERGO will assume all costs of hospitalisation and treatment and settle the bills directly with the hospital. Policyholders have the right to see a doctor of their choice and be treated at a hospital of their choice – anywhere in the world. Inpatient insurance following accidents also includes cover of up to €7,500 for rescue and recovery operations (for example helicopter transport) and treatment en route. “As is the case with our dentures insurance, no health questions are asked when customers sign up for an ERGO inpatient insurance following accidents policy – and we’re the only insurance company in Austria that guarantees this”, says Kraule.
Services not covered by the insurance include outpatient curative treatment and treatments that are performed for reasons other than an accident. ERGO inpatient insurance following accidents is available to anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 whose primary place of residence is Austria and who is currently insured under the statutory social insurance system in the country. Monthly premiums for the policy currently start at around €10 for 18-year-olds. Here as well, the principle applies that the younger the policyholder is when they sign up, the lower will be the premium.
New approaches in the field of private health insurance
“In order to safeguard our company’s success over the long term, we began implementing our new #Drivefor2025 corporate strategy in 2020”, says Wassenberg “Our entry into the private health insurance segment is an important pillar of this strategy. We look forward to utilising the extensive expertise of the entire ERGO Group in order to offer Austrians two new innovative health insurance products.” Both ERGO dental prosthesis insurance insurance and ERGO inpatient insurance following accidents can now be ordered online.
